JOB DESCRIPTION:

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking the expertise of a distinguished Pharmacist for their location in Panorama, Cape Town. Your role will involve delivering pharmaceutical care by addressing patients’ medication-related requirements and ensuring accountability in fulfilling these needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 / Matric
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) or an equivalent qualification
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical field
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in retail pharmacy (as a student or intern)
  • Proficiency in computer applications, specifically MS Office.

Beneficial qualifications include:

  • relevant experience in retail and FMCG.
  • proficiency in a third language, familiarity with SAP.
  • expertise in e-scripting.
  • certification as a registered tutor.
  • experience with Unisolv.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The provision of pharmaceutical care entails assuming responsibility for the medication-related needs of patients and ensuring these needs are met. This includes, but is not limited to, the following functions:

  • Assessing a patient’s medication-related requirements by evaluating the indication, safety, and efficacy of the treatment.
  • Dispensing any medication or controlled substance based on a prescription from an authorized prescriber.
  • Reviewing and approving all prescriptions prepared by an assistant or intern, and taking responsibility for their accuracy in accordance with GPP 2.7.1.2.1.f.
  • Providing information and guidance to individuals regarding medication usage.
  • Evaluating patient adherence to the treatment plan and conducting follow-ups to ensure their medication-related needs are satisfied.
  • Initiating therapy as a pharmacist.
  • Compounding, manipulating, preparing, or packaging any medication or controlled substance, or overseeing these processes.
  • Manufacturing any medication or controlled substance, or supervising this activity.
  • Engaging in the purchasing, acquiring, importing, storing, possessing, using, distributing, packaging, re-packaging, supplying, or selling of any medication or controlled substance, or supervising these actions.
  • Applying for the registration of a medication in compliance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.
  • Performing acts specifically related to the pharmacist profession as outlined above.
  • Formulating any medication for registration purposes.
  • Distributing any medication or controlled substance.
  • Re-packaging medications.
  • The initiation and execution of pharmaceutical research and development, along with the promotion of public health, entails accurately interpreting prescriptions and acting in a professional and responsible manner in compliance with the legal standards set by the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
  • It is essential to accurately capture prescription details and verify patient information within the system.
  • Furthermore, it is crucial to ensure the precise picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications while being knowledgeable about common dosages and significant drug interactions.
  • Providing patients with clear instructions on the proper use of the supplied medications is also necessary.
  • Staying informed about changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing is important.
  • Additionally, advising and assisting patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop is part of the role.
  • Following up with patients regarding prescription tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager and managing follow-up appointments is required.
  • It is also important to explain all medical aid costs to patients and to fulfill commitments made to customers.
  • Evaluating disease conditions and referring patients to in-store health facilities when necessary is part of the responsibilities.
  • Processing all necessary paperwork for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids, correcting errors on prescriptions rejected by medical aid, and ensuring authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications are critical tasks.
  • Maintaining customer profiles in the system, merging profiles locally while notifying Vexall for central merging, and taking appropriate action based on messages on customer profiles are also essential.
  • Assisting the Dispensary Manager in ensuring that all administrative functions are performed accurately and promptly, as well as reporting low or out-of-stock levels and stock discrepancies to the dispensary manager, are vital components of this role.
  • Conduct bi-annual inventory assessments.
  • Manage stock, cash, and asset oversight.
  • Support the Dispensary Manager in ensuring compliance with all stock control procedures and maintaining up-to-date registers in line with legal requirements.
  • Ensure housekeeping meets Dis-Chem standards.
  • Follow Dis-Chem Policies, Procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Abide by Dis-Chem’s uniform and personal appearance guidelines.
