A leading real estate company in Kathu Village, Northern Cape, is seeking a dedicated handyman to join their team on a six-month contract. About the Role

This contract position is part of the Investor Services division within the Resilient Portfolio segment of the company. The handyman will report to the building supervisor and collaborate closely with management and tenants to address maintenance requirements. Your work will ensure that the facility operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with legal and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

The handyman will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to:

1. General Maintenance
   • Complete all assigned maintenance tasks efficiently and within established timelines.
   • Regularly inspect buildings and facilities to determine maintenance needs.
   • Respond promptly to tenant maintenance requests and work orders.
2. Building Inspections
   • Inspect all internal and external doors for functionality and safety.
   • Evaluate building exteriors to identify potential issues.
   • Check restrooms, foyers, staircases, hallways, parking areas, and external lighting.
   • Inspect fire safety equipment and ensure emergency equipment is operational.
3. Equipment and System Checks
   • Assess the condition of air-conditioning units, standby pumps, sump pumps, water tanks, and other essential equipment.
   • Conduct visual inspections of electrical distribution boards for loose wiring or hazards.
   • Perform minor repairs and report larger issues to the building supervisor.
4. Preventive Maintenance
   • Conduct routine preventive maintenance as per the schedule.
   • Maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
   • Document all maintenance activities, work orders, and inspections accurately.
5. Tenant Support and Relations
   • Assist tenants during move-ins and oversee installation or relocation of partitioning if needed.
   • Maintain effective communication with tenants to ensure concerns are promptly addressed.
   • Develop and maintain strong relationships with tenants to foster a positive experience.
6. Safety and Compliance
   • Adhere to all safety regulations, including OSHA standards and company-specific protocols.
   • Conduct regular occupational safety and health inspections and update reports monthly.
   • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with legal and industry standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the handyman position should meet the following qualifications:

• Completion of Standard Eight (Grade 10).
• Supplementary training in maintenance, repair techniques, or relevant technical courses.
• Minimum of two years’ relevant maintenance experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong understanding of general maintenance operations and safety protocols.
• Ability to interpret and work from blueprints.
• Proficiency in performing repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination.
