Duties & Responsibilities of Retail Store Manager

As a Retail Store Manager, your primary responsibility is to meet and exceed store sales targets while delivering exceptional customer service. You will be tasked with effectively planning, organizing, and controlling all aspects of store operations in alignment with the company’s standards and procedures. This document should be used together with the performance appraisal document and forms an integral part of the employee’s terms and conditions of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Sales Management:

  • Achieve growth and meet sales targets by effectively managing, mentoring, and leading the store staff.
  • Collaborate with sales merchandisers, representatives, and regional managers to evaluate and refine sales strategies.

2.Customer Experience:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service to create a memorable shopping experience.
  • Address each customer’s unique needs, ensuring the customer always comes first.
  • Handle customer complaints professionally and calmly.

3.Team Leadership:

  • Develop, motivate, and inspire your team enthusiastically.
  • Recruit, coach, counsel, and discipline employees to maintain optimal job results.
  • Authorize work schedules, including work, break, and leave times.

4.Training & Development:

  • Ensure continuous training and development of all staff.
  • Regularly conduct training sessions to enhance staff skills.

5.Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee and control daily store operations to maximize sales turnover while managing budget and stock efficiently.
  • Minimize controllable expenses and prevent shrinkage, damages, and theft.
  • Implement and monitor all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

6.Stock Management:

  • Keep accurate records of stock and financial transactions.
  • Conduct daily floor walks and initiate warehouse or overstock replenishments.

7.Merchandising & Promotions:

  • Maintain company merchandise and housekeeping standards.
  • Coordinate with service providers such as security, cleaning, and logistics.
  • Plan and execute sales promotions effectively, including roadshows and liaising with center management.
  • Identify marketing opportunities and communicate them to all relevant parties.

This comprehensive role requires a proactive approach to manage store operations effectively, enhance sales performance, and ensure a top-tier customer experience.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Matric Certificate: A completed Matric Certificate is required.
  • Transportation: Candidates should have their own vehicle or reliable transportation to accommodate shift work.
  • Retail and Management Experience: Applicants must bring a minimum of 3 years of experience in a retail setting, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
