Dis-Chem Pharmacies is consistently seeking Casual Cashiers to establish a talent pool for their Brooklyn Mall location. The purpose of creating a strategic talent pool is to maintain a readily accessible and pre-screened collection of individuals possessing specific skills, qualifications, or characteristics that render them appropriate for prospective job openings within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.
Objective of the position:
Assist customer service at the point of sale while guaranteeing an exceptional shopping experience. Document customer transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system in accordance with company policies and standard operating procedures, maintaining a strict zero tolerance for inaccuracies and the mitigation of fraud risk.
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- A minimum of 6 months of experience in cashier or till operations.
- Proficient in computer use – MS Office.
- Strong numerical abilities.
- Excellent command of the English language.

Job Description:
- Comply with Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.
- Develop a professional rapport with customers.
- Communicate customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.
- Maintain awareness of the customer turnover hourly rate.
- Stay informed about current sales and promotions.
- Ensure that colleagues and customers are not exposed to any risks.
- Implement and uphold Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles.
- Take responsibility for cash flow management.
- Ensure that all line voids and price adjustments receive approval and are signed off by the supervisor.
- Facilitate merchandise exchanges for customers and accept returns when authorized.
- Process all transactions, including receiving and handling payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payment methods) as per Dis-Chem’s policies.
- Manage all loyalty cards, including those from our accelerator partners (Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks).
- Ensure that cash is deposited in the drop safe in accordance with Dis-Chem’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Restrict the use of your code and password to yourself; ensure it is secure and updated regularly.
- Verify that all outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for.
- Ensure that all cash is securely stored within the till.
- Handle daily takings with confidentiality and discuss them only with management.
- Remain vigilant, identify, and report any suspicious behavior to management.
- Address inquiries related to store merchandise.
- Follow Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures.
